Victoria residents elected a mayor Feb. 3, but a few more requirements must be met before the new mayor can pick up the gavel.

According to unofficial results from the Victoria County Elections Administrator, Duane Crocker won the election with 61.4% of the vote. Crocker is currently a City Council member representing District 3.

“I’m humbled by the trust that the citizens of Victoria have placed in me and grateful for the opportunity to give something back to my hometown,” Crocker said. “I look forward to working with other members of City Council, the City’s administration, other local entities and organizations, community leaders and the citizens of Victoria to continue the positive momentum the City has enjoyed in recent years.”

The City Council will canvass the votes during a special meeting Feb. 13. The canvassing process will produce official election results that will include provisional and absentee ballots received by the elections administrator after election day.

The new mayor will be sworn in at the start of the Feb. 20 City Council meeting. Mayor Jeff Bauknight will continue to serve as mayor until that time.

City Council election

Residents are reminded that an election will be held May 4 for all four regular City Council district seats (districts 1, 2, 3 and 4). This is a regularly scheduled election that is not related to the outcome of the mayoral election.

Residents have until Feb. 16 to file to run for the City Council election. Applications for candidacy are available at the City Secretary’s Office in City Hall, 105 W. Juan Linn St., or online at www.victoriatx.gov/city-secretary
