The City of Victoria Communications & Public Affairs earned five statewide awards from the Texas Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (TATOA) for its video productions highlighting local culture, arts and City projects.

Communications Director Ashley Strevel“Our department seeks to connect with residents through a variety of different formats, and our video productions are an important part of that effort,” said Communications Director Ashley Strevel. “We have a creative and hardworking team of communicators whose efforts are worthy of statewide recognition.”

The team earned first place in the Ethnic Experience category and second place in the Event/Program Promotion category for Past. Present. Future. A Reflection of Victoria’s 200 Years, a cinematic trailer encompassing Victoria’s 200 years of history.

“This particular video about Victoria’s roots and where we are today seemed to greatly impact our community in a positive way,” Strevel said. “Residents are truly taking ownership of their culture and the story we’ve so often needed to publicly tell about ourselves, and now through video format, it’s being told across the state of Texas and beyond.”

The team earned third place in the Fire Department category for VFD Cribs, which showcased the renovations and newly added amenities to Victoria Fire Department Station One in the style of “MTV Cribs.”

The team earned an award of merit in the Arts & Entertainment category for VPL Jams Featuring Dreamstereo, a behind-the-scenes session with Dreamstereo, a band from the Victoria Public Library’s VPL Jams series.

Finally, the team earned an award of merit in the Documentary category for La Calle de los Diez Amigos, an exploration of the history of a locally composed Tejano song about the historic street in Victoria.
